Many of my fishing students and subscribers have asked me to provide the exact, step-by-step procedures I use in my own personal fishing so that they might have a better chance of everyday fishing success. That question reminded me of just how important it is for fishermen to have a well thought out "plan" every time they get out on the water.
The thought of taking all of the complexities of successful fishing and reducing them down into a daily guide was challenging. However, by analyzing my own fishing, I began to list the step-by-step procedures needed for each and every day. After many hours of reflection, I created my Daily Guide to Fishing Success.
In this guide, I will walk you through all of the procedures needed in your daily fishing and explain in detail the “whys” and “hows” of each. Once you have a total understanding of these simple step-by-step procedures, you will no longer have to rely on luck to catch a fish. By having the facts and a proven, well thought out game plan, you too can start catching fish on purpose!

Don Dickson's Episode 3 of The Pro Fishing Challenge hosted by Curt Gowdy, "THE MASTERS OF FISHING" featuring Don and his mentor, Buck Perry, "the Father of Structure Fishing".
"America's Sportsman," Curt Gowdy challenges Don Dickson on National TV to back up his claim that he could go to any body of water, regardless of specie, and be catching big fish within one hour!
In addition to his remarkable angling skills, Don is known for his contributions in the field of fishing education. He began his teaching career 45 years ago, with a 12-year apprenticeship under the legendary E. L. “Buck” Perry. Buck developed the only true curriculum ever written on the subject of freshwater fishing and went on to introduce the fishing world to a brand new concept, called “Structure Fishing."
An exciting, in demand speaker, Don has taught at colleges and universities throughout the country, personally instructing more than 450,000 students. By 1980, Don had the reputation of being the number one fishing educator in America. He was then hired as a fishing consultant to the State of Illinois and spent three years designing and coordinating educational programs for the resident fishermen. During this period, he was also commissioned by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Office of tourism to produce promotional fishing Films and authored a book entitled, “The Illinois Fishing Guide.”
Since 1986, more than 100,000 fishermen have purchased his how-to videos. In addition to his commitment and dedication to the education of others, Don is also an innovator of much of today’s modern fishing equipment. During his career, he was involved in the design and manufacture of many tackle items, and is best known for his design of a solid-state analog display depth meter. He also designed and manufactured his own line of Structure Fishing boats.
Looking back on Don’s long and successful career, it’s obvious he has been involved in every facet of the industry. His overall knowledge and experience ranks second to none. Fishing, like any other sport, needs it’s heroes. Today, nearly everyone who has fished a tournament or has a patch on their shirt, is referred to a “fishing pro” and considered to be an expert in their field. Nothing could be further from the truth! The term expert is usually reserved for someone who has a total knowledge of a particular subject, and in most cases, that knowledge is a direct result of years of dedicated research, study, hard work, and experience. In fishing, the list of true experts is quite short. But, most will agree, the name at the head of that list, is Don Dickson!
